Lottery News:(Source) Mega Millions game hits New MexicoALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) New Mexico started selling Mega Millions lottery tickets Sunday, and lotto players are pumped for the first drawing on Tuesday Feb. 2. "I've never played before, I just thought I'd try this Mega Millions," Dave Maclay told News 13 as he picked up a ticket. Mega Millions is an alternative to Powerball with massive jackpots and slightly lower odds. For a dollar, you choose five numbers and one Mega Ball number. Players who match all six numbers win the jackpot. The highest Mega Millions jackpot to date is $390 million. The New Mexico Lottery decided to bring Mega Millions to the state because it makes us more competitive with neighboring states. Now, New Mexicans who live close to the Texas state line won't have to cross it to put their hat in the ring to win big. Revenue generated from the tickets goes to the fund that supports the New Mexico Lottery Success Scholarship. Mega Millions is expected to pour more money into it. "Modestly estimating, a fiver percent increase in sales, that's going to amount to about $1 million for the legislative lottery scholarship fund this year," Director of Marketing and Communications for New Mexico Lottery Adriana Binns said. The first Mega Millions drawing is this Tuesday and drawings are also held on Fridays. The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are one in 176 million. |
