Rhode Island Lottery News:(Source) RI lottery shows off Mega MillionsWarwick Mall event kicks off new gameThe chance to win millions. For the first time in Rhode Island's history, you can now buy a Powerball and Mega Millions ticket at all lottery retailers. It means more money to potentially cash out -- the base jackpot for Mega Millions is $12 million. Rhode Islanders hoping to win big lined up at the Warwick Mall lottery kiosk Monday, where lottery officials showed off the new game. Everyone hoped to become one of the state's first Mega Millions winners. The lottery authorities that run Powerball and Mega Millions launched the largest lottery agreement in U.S. history this week. Players in 33 states, including Rhode Island, can now buy both tickets at official lottery retailers. Like Powerball, a Mega Millions ticket costs a dollar. Mega Millions also has the option of a "Megaplier" like Power Play with Powerball, where your winnings can be multiplied, for an extra dollar. The state hopes to cash in as well. Rhode Island Lottery director Gerald Aubin says Ocean State players love big jackpot games, and adding Mega Millions is a win-win for players and the local economy. "By offering both games," said Aubin, "we anticipate having more winners, seeing our retailers earn more sales commissions, and raising more revenue for our state." Most are hoping the odds are in their favor. "I'm sure if I win the million," said one man, "I'll be buying more tickets." Mega Millions drawings are Tuesdays and Fridays at 11:00 p.m. Eastern time. Powerball drawings are Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:59 p.m., and are aired during Eyewitness News at 11:00 on WPRI 12. |
