The South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) began in 2002. South Carolina is a member of the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), best known for the Powerball game. SCEL-only games include Pick 3, Pick 4, Palmetto Cash 5, MegaMatch 6, and numerous scratch tickets. (MegaMatch 6 will hold its final drawing December 29, 2009; it is being discontinued as part of South Carolina joining Mega Millions on January 31, 2010. Although drawings are held daily, the SCEL is unique among U.S. lotteries in that players cannot purchase tickets on days when elections (primary or general) are held, such as on November 4, 2008. The minimum age to purchase SCEL tickets is 18. Beware of Scams: Under no circumstance should you ever give your personal information or monies to anyone claiming to be affiliated with any state lottery organization. We have posted the official South Carolina Lottery headquarters information above and this should be the only persons of interest if you have won a large sum of money. Smaller amount payouts can be redeemed by local retailers affiliated with the official lottery headquarters. |
